I consider myself a very lucky person. Design Equestre has enabled me to combine the two great passions in my life – horses & design.
I learnt to ride at the age of four and since then many wonderful horses and ponies have passed through my life. Eleven years ago, my family and our horses moved from the UK to the Loire Valley in France. Here, I breed sporthorses, mainly for pleasure but I do sell a few! I have five horses at home – my retired international advanced eventer and his mother plus some super youngsters.
I have spent most of my working life in some form of design – from window display as a teenager, to clothes design, international exhibition stand design, packaging and graphics. My designs have covered a variety of products from horse feed sacks in the UK to razors in Australia.
Most recently I was asked to design the logo for the newly formed French commune of Les Bois d’Anjou. It was quite a shock to see it on even their Death Certificates! That’s a first!
Designing for myself without a client’s brief has been an amazing experience. I find the designs ‘talk’. They evolve all by themselves into different things. Some of them scream out to be bedding or scarves or rugs or wrapping paper – I have two that want to be jewellery!
I’ve introduced a range of cotton prints / tea towels because all the designs lend themselves willingly to this medium and so many people have asked me for them.
I hope you enjoy looking at my designs as much as I have enjoyed creating them!
